Creating templates in StoryLink
InDesign / StoryLink / StoryEditor
Prepare the final appearance of the page in InDesign, along with all the elements, including the recurring elements. Make sure the recurring elements are saved to the location from where they will not be deleted.
After creating the final appearance make sure that all of the elements are correctly labeled.
When all of the elements are correctly labeled, mark the position on the page for every one of them.
For StoryLink to be able to merge texts and its elements (superscript, title, subtitle, text...) created in StoryEditor to a belonging frames in InDesign, those frames must be correctly labeled (defined), each of them has to have the label that matches the label of a text from the articles module. The same goes for creating the template pages, every part of the page has to have a defined position of the article and its elements (so the system can, when creating the article from the template, recognize all the article’s elements and the number of text characters of each element).
Set Label to Selected Frames
Position Type - defines the position of the article (Article Position) and the position of the elements along the article (Element Position). E.g. - the main article on the page will have the position A, the next important will have the position B, the next will have the position C (positions don’t have to be defined according to importance of the articles, but can be defined according to the order of display on the page). If the main article (article’s position A) has a frame, lead and a quote, then the frame will have the Article position A, Element Position A; lead will be Article position A, Element Position B, and the quote Article position A, Element Position C. That way when creating the template, the system will be able to merge/ connect the frames in InDesign with the articles.
Check whether all the elements are correctly defined using Read Labels from Selected Frame - this option will read all the labels in the active window.
Type - superscript, title, subtitle...
Article ID - identification number of the article
ID - identification number of the element
Status - the status of the element (F, T, P)
Article Position - position of the article
Element Position - position of the element
After labeling all the elements, save the page to the system using Templates option.
Templates
The Templates are InDesign documents containing all the elements of the page, together with articles and photo frames. This is used with pages that repeatedly look similar, as working with the templates makes the workflow much faster. The templates are saved to the groups (e.g. The World, Television...), within every group there is a single template (e.g. left side, right side with ad, centerfold...).
You can create the groups as new (New), refresh the existing one (update) or delete (delete). At the single templates you can open existing one (open), generate new, refresh the existing (generate New/Update) or delete the active template.
Then you can create the articles for that page.
Export Template Articles
To generate articles from the template, they must be correctly labeled (see labels), and then use Export Template Articles option to create articles in the database that will be defined through StoryEditor -> Admin Publication -> Press Template Articles panel
Overwrite - use this option to write in the changes, including making of the new preview
Remark - it takes some time for all the articles to get entered into to the database, so wait a while until you see on the screen the notification saying that the template is created
At the end, enter the name of the article.
After you’ve created the page, defined its elements (labeling) and marked the text (positions of the article and the elements) it will be created through StoryLink (see the instructions for SL - Creating template) as a template page with the belonging texts (1). Then the articles will be displayed in the StoryEditor panel in the Template Articles (2) through which you need to define the working titles of the texts you want to be displayed in the list of articles (e.g. News upper left, Main article, Photo news...)(3).
